Contingency Management
Part 2: The Founding Principles

Contingency management is a well-established clinical tool that can help patients stay the path of recovery, one step at time. Decades of research suggest it can improve patient retention and engagement (associated with better outcomes), increase abstinence, and enhance the experience and environment of substance abuse treatment for both patients and staff. Treatment programs have been able to design many kinds of innovative and creative programs. The key to being successful, however, lies in closely following and adhering to seven core principles.
